It is Friday, October 17th and I now have my flight ticket, Turkish visa, and a new ten year passport.
Since Sunday, I have had a friend staying with me. He and his wife lived in my city for many many years. Six months ago they retired and moved back to Turkey.
The first day he was here we got to talking about the thermal baths in Turkey and I knew immediately that I wanted to go to one. My TCM doctor (traditional Chinese Medicine) agreed that it would be a good idea. I considered that a prescription! So, I am flying back with him on Tuesday, October 21st, just four days away.
My home away from home will be in Tire, Turkey. They live in a brand new area of Tire with all new construction and internet services are not yet there. This I am upset about because to go cold turkey is going to be difficult. I will look into getting a dongle, but I have read they are terribly expensive in Turkey. Of course there are always cafes with WIFI, but I really don't fancy carrying my laptop around. Time will tell how I manage to overcome this challenge.
This will be my fifth time at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. Once I even had a two night forced layover, but none of my cards worked (I had only notified the bank that I would be in Kenya), so didn't get to do much but walk the immediate area of my hotel. Learn from my mistake and always include the country of connecting airports just in case.
This time I am connecting immediately with a flight to Izmir. There must be something deep and dark in my past life/lives that makes Istanbul so elusive to me.
Must go now and get my suitcases out of the closet and start to fill them.
